The Hoad Monument | Ulverston, Cumbria
This monument was built in 1850, as a memorial to honour the life of Sir John Barrow. Barrow was a naval explorer who was born in Ulverston, and the monument is a replica of an early version of the Eddystone Lighthouse.
As well as being able to hike up to the monument and go inside for free, you can also pay to hire it for weddings and other celebrations too!
The monument isn't always open, so it's best to plan your visit if you'd like to go inside. Otherwise, it's a fairly simple hike up the gravel path to admire the monument and the sweeping views that surround it.
