Free Beauty Samples Were Made For Holidays!
Editor's note: this blog post was originally written in 2013 and has been completely revamped and updated with the latest information. Enjoy!
Our loyal freebie fans will know that receiving free stuff is fantastic all year round, but it's during summer that beauty freebies really come in handy!
Even the smallest free samples - were made for taking on holidays. Read on to find out why...
1. Free samples save space and weight in your suitcase
Free perfume samples in particular - are extremely useful for taking on holidays as they're small and light-weight. Lugging your favourite perfume bottle across the globe adds unnecessary weight to your suitcase, could break in transit and even go off in high heat or altitude! Plus, this is the perfect time to try out new fragrances that you might not normally shell out for. The glossy perfume adverts are always telling us their fragrance is perfect for 'day' or perfect for 'night', but let's face it - most of us can't afford the luxury of having a specific fragrance to suit us at different times of day!
Gather up your collection of designer perfume freebies and live your best life by spritzing a new fragrance every morning and evening on your holiday! Rotating your perfumes also means you'll be able to smell them for longer.
A few perfume samples will contain just enough to last your holiday and postcard versions weigh next to nothing. The foil on these will also keep your fragrance as fresh as possible and you can even conveniently pop them in your handbag for instant top-ups. This makes samples ideal for saving more space in your luggage for all of your fave holiday outfits!
2. Free samples help you beat baggage charges
Taking all your full-size beauty products on holiday can take up a lot of valuable space in your suitcase. Replacing your regular products with smaller samples could mean you can get away with only taking hand-luggage. Travelling light and avoid baggage fees - it's a win, win situation.
Also, most free skincare samples come in sachets or 30ml travel-sizes which adhere to the '100ml or less' rule for liquids. They'll also fit nicely into those small plastic bags so you need not decant your beauty essentials into travel bottles - saving you time and money!
3. Freebies save you money on miniatures
It can be ridiculous how beauty brands charge you more money just for putting a smaller amount of product into a miniature bottle - the cheek! Clever marketing makes you think that you're saving cash and travelling light, but actually the cute miniatures that you can find on the beauty counters are a total fad and are there to catch you out when you're rushing around making last-minute holiday purchases.
Don't waste your money. Instead, collect as many free samples and beauty freebies as you can - they're exactly the same thing but instead of an over-priced price tag they're completely free!
If you have lots of the same sachets then how about pouring them into a mini beauty jar. You'll turn a lot of free samples into one neat freebie.
TOP TIP: stash away '7-day supply' skincare freebies, as they are perfect for knowing exactly how long your freebies will last you when you're away.
4. They keep your make-up and beach bag light!
You might think twice before claiming free foundation samples but they are well worth taking advantage of. When you're organising your holiday make-up bag, a small one-week supply will free up a lot of space for those extra holiday bits like bronzer and bright lip glosses.
On holiday you'll also need more skincare products like after-sun. This can involve lugging around lots of bottles but this is where free samples can help! Recently, I received some free E45 skincare sachets which kept my beach bag nice and light.
5. Keep your favourite beauty products safe
There's nothing worse than taking all your favourite beauty products abroad and losing/breaking/spoiling them while away. The heat can melt products, spoil perfume and separate liquid make-up so it's always best to keep anything expensive or special safely tucked up at home.
Free samples often come in sachets or tubes that are made for travel so can be used and thrown away before you return home - freeing up space for gifts!
So, before you discard (or rush to use up) any particularly small free samples just remember this blog post and how handy free samples are on holiday!
